WHEN YOUR COUNTY IS SPARED, BE A NEIGHBOR

Scripture “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”—Galatians 6:2, KJV

Reflection

When a hurricane passes and our home is safe, gratitude comes naturally. We thank God that our family is unharmed, our lights are on, and we have a place to sleep.

But gratitude can become the beginning of service.

Beyond our county line, another family may be facing a very different morning. Their home may be damaged. Their workplace may be closed. The ordinary tasks we barely notice—preparing breakfast, washing clothes, putting children to bed—may suddenly feel overwhelming.

County lines help organize government. They do not mark the boundaries of our love.

In the Good Samaritan’s example, compassion became action. He stopped, tended wounds, arranged care, and committed resources. He allowed another person’s suffering to change his plans.

That is the invitation before us. Neighborlove’s second tier, Circle of Love, emphasizes community service: individuals joining with others to meet needs that are difficult to address alone. One person can give. A church can gather support. A business can contribute resources. A civic organization can organize volunteers. Working together, they can sustain help beyond the first wave of concern.

We encourage churches, businesses, service organizations, and emergency management leaders—including Escambia Emergency Management—to help connect unaffected communities with established relief efforts serving affected Florida counties.

Begin by asking those receiving the help: What do you need? Who is coordinating? How can we serve alongside you?

Cooperation gives compassion direction. It helps willing hands reach the right place, with the right resources, at the right time. We do not all have the same money, strength, skills, or available hours. But each of us can prayerfully consider what we can offer.

Our gratitude for being spared can become someone else’s reason for hope.

Put Love into Action

•

GIVE: If you are able, donate to a trusted relief organization serving affected Florida communities.

• VOLUNTEER: Arrange an assignment through an established relief organization before traveling. Confirm the work, requirements, and arrival instructions.

• ORGANIZE: Ask your church, workplace, or civic group to choose a relief partner, confirm current needs, and name one person to coordinate your contribution. Collect supplies only when the receiving organization has requested them.

• CONTINUE: Follow up after the headlines fade. Ask what help is still needed.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for every mercy we have received. Keep our gratitude from ending with our own comfort. Open our eyes to neighbors who are hurting. Bring churches, organizations, businesses, and community leaders together in wise and compassionate service. Show each of us what we can give and where we can help. Let our love become something another person can experience. In Jesus’ name, amen.

What Will Jesus Say?
