WWJS — WHAT WILL JESUS SAY?

Love Is Our Answer to Hate

Hate is loud. Division is loud. Fear is loud.

Every day we are encouraged to decide who belongs to our group, who does not, who deserves our compassion, and who can safely be ignored. Jesus gives us another way.

“Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” — Mark 12:31

Jesus did not tell us to love only the neighbor who agrees with us.

He did not tell us to feed only the hungry person who thinks like us, give water only to the thirsty person who looks like us, welcome only the traveler who comes from where we come from, care only for the sick person we understand, shelter only the homeless person whose story we approve, or visit only the prisoner whose mistakes we can forgive.

He said:

Love your neighbor.

And in Matthew 25, Jesus makes that command intensely personal. The hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the poorly clothed, the sick and the prisoner are not interruptions to the Christian life.

Jesus says He meets us in them.

That is why NeighborLove asks one simple but difficult question:

WWJS — What Will Jesus Say?

Not, “What will Jesus say about them?”

But:

What will Jesus say to me about how I treated them?

Our mission is to confront hatred with love, division with neighborliness, indifference with mercy, and empty religious words with obedience to the Word of God.

Our recurring campaigns will return again and again to the words of Matthew 25: I was hungry. I was thirsty. I was a traveler. I was homeless. I was sick. I was in jail.

Today, we begin with one of the simplest sentences Jesus ever spoke:

“I Was Thirsty.”

A glass of water seems small.

Until you do not have one.
